What do you enjoy most about coaching?
There are many things I enjoy about coaching but the most rewarding would have to be watching the joy and sense of achievement a player gets when they have been taught a new skill and successfully execute it in a match environment. Also, seeing kids who come down to the club once a week for a lesson become completely immersed in the sport and end up at the club every afternoon after school. In a participation sense, there is no better feeling as a coach.
Why should people come to Tennis Approach?
I have spent most of my coaching career working to establish and provide a coaching business that is unmatched in Western Australia, not only producing elite junior players but also offering a pathway for all children and adults to achieve their tennis goals.
In all my years of coaching, I can confirm no two players are the same. Everybody wants something different out of tennis, and Tennis Approach is here to help each player reach his or her individual goal.

What do you enjoy most about coaching?
I started coaching when I was just 14, I have over 40 years of experience, including the past four at Cottesloe. I absolutely love what I do, tennis has been a major part of my life since I was just four years old. What I enjoy most about coaching is watching players of all ages grow, not just in their skills on the court, but in confidence as well. It’s incredibly rewarding to see how the lessons learned through tennis, such as resilience and focus, can positively influence every part of their lives.
What do you enjoy most about coaching?
I first picked up a racket at the age of 4 when my big brother was playing in coaching groups and, after much persistence, the coach finally let me join in. By the time I was 14, I was helping out my injured coach, and I’ve now been coaching for around 16 years. The best part of coaching for me is getting to know so many different people, each with their own story and tennis journey, and figuring out how I can help them improve, seeing their progress is what makes it all worthwhile.
What do you enjoy most about coaching?
I picked up a racket for the first time with my family during holidays away in the caravan back in Scotland and found a love for the sport. I really enjoy working with players to develop a better understanding and love of the game. Seeing players grow in confidence on court, develop friendships and venture into the coaching world themselves is very rewarding.

I first discovered my love for tennis at the age of eight through my school’s tennis program. Since then, the sport has been a major part of my life, and coaching has allowed me to share that passion with others. My favourite part of coaching is seeing players give their absolute best during lessons, pushing themselves to surpass their own capabilities — it’s incredibly rewarding to witness their determination and growth.

What do you enjoy most about coaching?
I love teaching the fundamentals of the game of tennis. I also love seeing kids progress and gain confidence on the court after a few terms of coaching, especially the young girls. Tennis is a sport for life so I know what I teach kids now will be useful at some point in their lives, whether it's competitive play, social play or a casual hit with family and friends.
What do you enjoy most about coaching?
I like seeing the children put what they have learnt in training into a competitive match - that is the real gauge of a child's improvement. I also enjoy identifying areas of improvement in a child's game and giving feedback to instantly improve their game.
